Mumming
Mummers' plays are an ancient British tradition that have been performed for many centuries.
A short play is performed by a team or troupe of Mummers, heavily disguised and costumed, at certain times of the year - usually around Christmas and Easter. There is always a battle scene, followed by a death in the play.
It is usually St George who is murdered, and in due course revived, by the end of the action.
Peter Millington has researched the English Mummers play and has a great site here, if you are interested in further explanations.
